Crossing The Island
'Crossing The Island', woven in 2009, was a commission for a private home. This was quite an exciting brief as the tapestry, which was to hang in a narrow stairwell, would be seen from unusual viewpoints and not necessarily all at once....the bottom half obliquely beyond the staircase from the living room, the central part close up as you mount the stairs and coming downstairs, you start with the top of the tapestry at eye level. Because the house was fairly uncluttered and neutral the clients were keen to have something with quite strong colour, but definitely the colours of the landscape.
